How to Make Organic Liquid Soap

Soapwort root produces the sudsing action in this organic liquid soap which contains no lye, soap or detergent. The natural bubbling is enhanced by glycerin and coconut oil, which are mild and nourishing to the skin. Soapwort root has been used effectively to cleanse body, hair and natural fabrics for centuries. This homemade organic soap not only cleanses but gently moisturizes, unlike harsh commercial liquid soaps. It's quick and easy to make and all the ingredients are readily available at any health food store.

Instructions

Bring 4 cups of distilled water to a rolling boil. Turn the heat down so that the water continues to simmer.

Make a tea by adding 3 heaping tbsp. of the dried chopped soapwort to the pan of water. Simmer the tea for 20 to 25 minutes and remove it from the heat.

Add 1 tbsp. of the organic virgin coconut oil to the tea. Stir well.

Stir 1 tsp. of the vegetable glycerin into the tea, and blend thoroughly. Allow the mixture to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Stir your organic liquid soap again and then filter it through a coffee filter or cheesecloth into a glass pitcher.

Cool the liquid soap for about another half hour. Stir, then pour into containers with tight-fitting lids. Store in a cool, dry location.
