With so many products and brands on the market it's hard to know which skin care regimen is right for you, but not to worry: Every good skin care regimen has four steps in common. Regardless of your skin type, color and individual characteristics, you can easily adapt these basic steps to come up with a regimen thats exactly right for your skin.

    Wash your skin using a good cleanser thats appropriate for your skin type. For example, if you have dry skin, look for a creamy cleanser. If you have oily skin, be sure to choose an oil-free cleanser. Cleanse your face every evening with warm water and just a drop of cleanser, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water.

    Exfoliate your skin with a microdermabrasion kit once a week. Microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells to make your skin glow and keep it looking youthful.

    Tone your skin if desired. Some experts maintain that toners arent necessary if you use a good cleanser. However, toning is also said to remove any remaining traces of oil, dirt and makeup.

    Moisturize your skin. This is the most important step in your beauty regimen, no matter what your skin type. Use a day moisturizer with UV protection to prevent sun damage, the leading cause of wrinkles. Use a different moisturizer at night.

    See a dermatologist on a regular basis to make sure you're using the correct products for your skin type and to help with problems such as extreme dryness, discoloring or acne.
