How to Make Nettle and Lemongrass Body Soap

Nettle and lemongrass body soap is a natural, homemade alternative to the expensive body soaps found in retail stores. Making your own body soap can be a rewarding and fun experience too, and you can tailor the soap to your skin type and scent preferences by using your favorite essential oils and fragrance oils. This recipe makes one pound of soap, which can be cut into bars for more convenient use. Store unused portions in natural, undyed paper in a dark, dry place.

Instructions

Chop the glycerin soap base into small pieces with a sharp knife and place the pieces in a heatproof measuring cup. Add the avocado oil and stir to combine.

Place the measuring cup into the saucepan, and pour enough water into the saucepan to fill it halfway. Heat the saucepan over low heat until the soap has completely melted. Melting the soap should take between five and eight minutes, but it does vary depending on the soap base.

Remove the saucepan from the stove. Add the nettle essential oil and the lemongrass essential oil to the melted soap. Stir the mixture for 30 to 40 seconds with a glass stirrer.

Transfer the liquid soap to the soap bar mold. Let the soap rest for six to eight hours or until fully solidified.

Turn the mold over and push the bar of soap out with your hands. Trim any rough edges with a sharp knife.
