How to Prevent Ink From Fading

A tattoo, also known as ink, is a creative way to show off areas of your personality or interests or to memorialize a loved one. Tattoos are made by injecting ink into the skin to form a design. They are permanent, and even laser removal of a tattoo will leave you scarred. Since tattoos are a permanent piece of art on your body, you should take care to keep them looking their best. Over time, tattoos can fade, causing the once vibrant image to appear old and dingy. Tattoo fading is a natural occurrence. Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to keep the fading to a minimum.

Instructions

    1

Keep your ink covered up. Sunlight is the leading cause of tattoo fading. By keeping your tattoo out of the sunlight, you will reduce the chance of fading.

    2

Wash your tattoo daily with warm water and a mild soap. Pat (do not rub) your ink with a towel.

    3

Wear sunscreen daily. Using sunscreen not only will keep your tattoo from fading, but it also promotes general skin health. Sun exposure can cause age spots, wrinkles and cancer, so wearing sunscreen regularly is a good idea. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

    4

Moisturize the skin daily to keep tattoo ink from fading. Moisturizing hydrates the skin, keeping it looking vibrant and fresh.
