How to Make Any Facial Cream Mildly Abrasive

Microdermabrasion creams are widely available at drug and grocery stores, but not all major face cream brands offer them. If you like the way that mildly abrasive creams help to scrape away dead skin cells and reinvigorate the skin but your favorite type of cream isn't available in this form, just make your own. Start with your favorite facial cream or cleanser and a quick trip to your pantry.

Instructions

Open a canister or tube of facial cream and set it on the bathroom sink or counter. If you must dampen your face before using your type of cream, dampen it now and dry your hands.

Put a single dose of facial cream on the fingertips of one hand.

Take a good sized pinch of cornmeal from its container. You want about one tablespoon, but you don't have to measure.

Sprinkle the cornmeal onto the dab of cream and massage it all together. When the cornmeal is evenly distributed, apply it to your face as you usually would.

Massage the cream into your face, taking care to avoid getting any in your eyes. You'll feel the cornmeal adding an abrasive quality to the cream, scrubbing away dead skin and giving you an even deeper cleaning.

Rinse your hands clean when you're done washing, and then rinse the cream off of your face using your hands. Keep your eyes closed tightly when rinsing.

Dry your face and hands with a towel.
