Side Effects of Pro Retinols

Pro-retinol is an anti-oxidant that delivers Vitamin A to the skin cells, revitalizing the cells and increasing collagen production. This reduces wrinkles and gives your skin a healthy and refreshed appearance. However, there are some side effects associated with the use of pro-retinol.

When first using a pro-retinol, many people notice a slight reddening of the skin. This redness is normal and temporary--but should be monitored and evaluated if it worsens.

Many people experience a slight stinging to their skin after applying pro-retinol. A mild stinging sensation is normal, but should be evaluated if the stinging worsens or becomes painful.

Skin undergoing a pro-retinol treatment will be sensitive to sunlight. Be sure to apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every time you leave the house.

At first, pro-retinol users may experience raised red bumps on their skin, which is a sign of irritation and is temporary. If your skin seems very irritated, cut your use of pro-retinol in half and monitor the irritation.

Sometimes, people with very sensitive skin may experience peeling of the areas pro-retinol is treating. If you experience peeling, it is most likely severe irritation--discontinue use of the product and speak with your dermatologist.
