How to Make Rosemary and Lavender Hand Soap

Rosemary and lavender hand soap is a natural, homemade alternative to expensive store-bought hand soaps. Commercial soaps may contain unnecessary and potentially harmful additives and chemicals to make them smell a certain way or stay stable during the long shipping and shelving process. Rosemary and lavender hand soap has a dark green color that may be a bit less attractive than some commercial soap, but it works just as well at cleansing and nourishing the hands.

Instructions

Shred the castile soap with a grater and reserve in a small bowl.

Boil the distilled water in a small saucepan. Remove the pan from heat and add the dried lavender and rosemary. Steep for 40 minutes before draining through a fine-mesh sieve. Discard the solids and reserve the liquid in another small saucepan.

Place the reserved liquid on the stove. Bring back to a boil and add the shredded castile soap. Reduce the heat to low and stir until the mixture becomes thick and sticky.

Remove the pan from heat and add the cornmeal, lanolin, vitamin E oil and lavender and rosemary essential oils. Stir with a glass stirrer.

Transfer the soap to a bar soap mold and let it set for 8 hours before first use.
