How to Make Peppermint and Chamomile Soap

Peppermint and chamomile soap is a simple soap that can be prepared in less than 30 minutes, though it does take time to harden before it can be used. Making your own soap can save you a lot of money over buying expensive commercial products, which often contain unnatural and potentially harmful preservatives to stabilize and scent them. Homemade soaps do not use these types of additives, as they do not go through a long shipping and shelving process. Homemade peppermint and chamomile soap will keep for about two months.

Instructions

Shred the castile soap with a grater and set aside in a small bowl until needed.

Pour the water into a medium saucepan bring to the boil. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the dried chamomile flowers. Let the flowers steep for 35 minutes.

Drain the saucepan in a fine-mesh sieve, reserving the liquid in a clean saucepan. Put the saucepan back on the stove and bring the liquid to the boil.

Lower the heat to low and add the reserved castile soap. Stir with a glass stirrer until the mixture becomes thick and sticky.

Add the lanolin, jojoba oil, peppermint essential oil and vitamin E oil and stir until well combined.

Transfer the mixture to a bar soap mold and let rest at room temperature at five hours to set. Remove and use the soap as normal.
