How to Get Quality Henna Supplies

Henna is a natural way to color your skin and create temporary tattoos. Today, you can find an abundance of henna supplies on the market. Currently, there are henna oils, shampoos, conditioners and even creams. Product knowledge is the key to quality. Before you purchase henna products, you should be familiar with the characteristics of natural henna.

Look at the color of a henna product before you purchase it. Henna shouldn't be black. Often, black henna contains PPD, a chemical that commonly causes skin irritations. Avoid black henna.

Smell the henna before you purchase it. Some henna artists mix acetone, lighter fluid, turpentine or gasoline into henna products. If the henna smells too pungent, it could contain some of these dangerous chemicals.

Read the product's label carefully. If the label mentions anything about henna stones, be aware that henna-stone products usually contain PPD, and this chemical can harm you.

Conduct a patch test after purchasing the henna product. To do so, apply a small amount of the product to a strip of adhesive tape. Apply the adhesive tape to your skin and leave the tape in place for 24 hours. If your skin shows no signs of irritation after this period of time, you can use the henna product for its intended purpose.
